Nigeria Intensifies Preparation for AJC

Host Nigeria has stepped up the gear towards ensuring a good outing at the Confederation of African Tennis Junior Championship Zonal Qualifier billed for between January 13 and 18 in Abuja.

Winners of the just-concluded Maryam Babangida Memorial Championship in Minna are leading new sets of players that would represent the country at the event.

National Junior Tennis Coach, Mohammed Ubale, expressed confidence that Nigeria’s players will excel at the championship as Godsgift Timipre and Fortune Aniso joined the camp in Abuja National Stadium, alongside other players that were discovered at the four-day tournament held last week.

Ubale was particularly excited about the form Timipre posted, winning all his five matches at the Minna Tennis Club without dropping a set.

Timipre’s Cogent Tennis Foundation teammate, Aniso, also displayed a breath-taking performance where she took Bukola Are (also in camp) to the cleaners in the final.

We are set to go and all the players are in top shape. The tournament in Minna has proved to be timely because it serves as part of the preparation and I’m convinced we will have a very good outing next week,” Ubale concluded.
